A popular grant scheme run by the SCVO, the national membership organisation for charities in Scotland, has returned for 2019.

The scheme is supported and funded by the Scottish government, and offers charities across the country a brilliant opportunity to get Cyber Essentials accreditation for their business.

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed and industry-supported scheme which helps businesses protect their cyber security. It also enables organisations to show their commitment to a secure and trustworthy system.

The steps to Cyber Essentials accreditation are easy to follow. With the SCVO grant below, it is even more so.

The SCVO grant in a nutshell

The scheme offers grants up to £1,000 for third sector organisations which can actively show how Cyber Essentials accreditation will benefit their organisation.

To apply for the grant, your company should also be able to:

  • Provide evidence of how you are already taking steps towards basic requirements in the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Small Charities Guide.
  • Demonstrate you have a contracted IT supplier or dedicated in-house IT staff.
  • Apply for the grant by the deadline of Friday 30 August at 5pm (UK time).

Why you should apply for the grant

It has never been more pressing to ensure that charities and other third sector organisations have safe and trusted systems in place to improve cyber security.

The threat of cyber attacks is growing. According to David McNeill, the Digital Director of SCVO: “Charities are increasingly vulnerable to cyber risks, so it’s really important that they take action to keep themselves and their data safe.”

He went on: “We’re looking forward to helping dozens of Scottish charities boost their cyber resilience.”

The grant has previously supported 56 organisations to achieve their Cyber Essentials accreditation. Due to its success, the scheme has now been scaled up to include dozens more third sector organisations across Scotland for the next 12 months.
